About our Staff

Paula Higgs, RN, MSN/MHA, SMQT-C

Paula started her healthcare career over 32 years ago. She has obtained a Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) and Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA).  She has over 30 years of nursing experience.

 

She has worked in the areas of neonatal ICU, newborn nursery, behavioral health, geriatrics, long-term care, senior living, pharmacy services, and regulatory/accreditation agencies. For years, she provided bed-side nursing care before advancing her career in leadership positions. She has mentored healthcare staff and taught clinical nursing courses.

 

The past 22 years she has expanded her career in the area of regulatory compliance by conducting surveys, investigations and consultant services in healthcare facilities. She has obtained her SMQT (Surveyor Minimum Qualification Test) Certification from CMS (Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services.) She has worked as a state surveyor/investigator for the states of Texas and Arizona. She has also worked or conducted contract surveying and investigating for the Veterans Administration, Joint Commission, and CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). She has completed surveys/investigations and other regulatory services in long term care, assisted living, behavioral health, and ICF/IDD facilities. 

 

In addition, she has now expanded her career by obtaining her CLNC (Certified Legal Nurse Consultant) Certification. This has allowed her to utilize her advanced nursing & regulatory education and over 30 years of healthcare expertise to assist Attorneys, Insurance companies, and healthcare facilities with legal Nurse Consulting Services.
